Whisky the water of life
Here in Scotland we are very proud of the stuff & to celebrate the amber nectar of the gods this year we are celebrating for a full month! May is whisky month & all over scotland there are loads of festivals, events, tastings going on - check out the Visit Scotland website for more info.
A wee dram
Mr B loves the stuff! Like properly appreciates it - not just glugging it back, he really savours the stuff.
So this Christmas as I tried to think of 'different' gifts, I came across a map of all Scottish Distilleries. Ping!
So I bought the map

Excuse the BAD picture - its on the wall now in a frame & just couldn't get the light right :( |
I bought a bottle bag/tube - filled it with cans so it would feel like a bottle was inside. Mr B was convinced it was a bottle of a malt to add to his collection!
The Challenge
Actually what was inside with the cans, was a challenge.
His mission, should he choose to accept it was
His mission, should he choose to accept it was
To visit every distillery in Scotland
The Rules
He was to do a tour if they had one & to try their whisky. After a visit he would put a sticker on the map to show his progress.
Now, some of them don't have tours & some are in active but if we can we should still visit & try find their whisky.
I am well aware there are always new ones opening, so this will definitely be a long term project. If it takes a lifetime, well, I'm not gonna complain!
Our local dram
He has visited a few distilleries already & so he put those stickers on, but to get him started I also gifted a local tour. I encouraged him to do the local ones first, as in Perthshire we have a few!
I started him off with Tullibardine Distillery in Blackford, a Highland whisky still produced using traditional methods.
I have posts planned for the distilleries we've been to so there will definitely be more posts dedicated to Scotland's dram.
Do I like whisky?
Mmmm, no not really! It's very strong to me & I have weak baby tastes. However I do like to bring in the new year with a patriotic dram which I sip away at. When I went to my friends one new year I took a bottle for such a purpose & obviously it's good for 'first footing'. Who knows what I will be bringing the year in this year as I will be in New York!

Ever visited a distillery?
