Barbecue Week
National Barbecue Week - how did I not know such a think existed?? These #BEDM prompts are fab. Here in Scotland - we love a good barbi! If there is the slightest bit of sun - the BBQ's are out & the supermarket shelves are cleared of anything barbi related.
Honestly I have seen people fighting over sausages & empty spaces where the tomato sauce should be!
And Team Brown are no different. We love a BBQ. In fact we would pack up a disposable barbecue, rolls, burgers, sausages, salads & sauces & head to our local country park that had picnic benches with metal plates for BBQs.
Investing in a BBQ
When we moved from a flat to a house, one of the first things we bought for the garden was a small cheap kettle BBQ. We had no chairs or table to sit out on but hey who needs chairs?
We bought special BBQ packs of sausages, burgers, & grill sticks from the local butchers ready to go the minute some dry weather was forecast.
And the minute there was a glimpse of summer we were ready to go! Our first BBQ was just Mr B and I, with Bailey keeping a close eye of course.
Our kettle BBQ did us proud!
Last summer we had loads of BBQs. We had parents, we had friends over, we had neighbours round - any excuse & we were on it!
We are still beginners tho in BBQ stakes & muddled thro last year learning each time.
The first BBQ involved a lot of waiting for it to heat up, a lot of waiting.
Then the second BBQ Mr B had the bright idea of adding paper to "get it going" faster. Any BBQ pros will know that this will only create smoke. Lots of smoke! Our neighbours thought we were sending smoke signals, everyone in the street knew we were having a BBQ that day!
Then there was meat sticking to the grill fiasco, then the how do you like your meat - well done or cremated?
The food wasn't the only thing that got burnt that day tho!
Here in Scotland - you can't count on the weather.
Just saying the B word can initiate rain. True story.
I was thinking of putting together a BBQ essentials list. So that if we would be ready to go should the BBQ mood strike. We would have a list to check we had everything & a list that I could send Mr B shopping with! Sounds like a good idea right?
I say charcoal, Mr B was with me until we went to our neighbours who have a big bad boy gas grill. They are moving to Australia so are big barbi fans too & it was so much easier to get going & regulate the heat, but did it taste the same - I'm not convinced!

BBQ Beginners
Mr B is in charge of BBQ & meats. I am in charge of salads, rolls, breads, kebabs, sauces, drinks, plates, cutlery & anything else I think a good BBQ needs. We are still beginners tho in BBQ stakes & muddled thro last year learning each time.

Every weather is BBQ weather
This year we have invested in a table & chairs, extra chairs (we are hoping for guests!), decking & generally made the space more user friendly. Here in Scotland - you can't count on the weather.

The big BBQ debate
Charcoal or Gas?I say charcoal, Mr B was with me until we went to our neighbours who have a big bad boy gas grill. They are moving to Australia so are big barbi fans too & it was so much easier to get going & regulate the heat, but did it taste the same - I'm not convinced!
Enjoy a good barbi?
What would be on your BBQ essentials list?
Charcoal or gas?
