Whisky Tour Challenge

At christmas I set Mr B the challenge of visiting all the distilleries in Scotland with a map & some stickers. Read all about it here.
Map of Scottish Whisky Distilleries

First stop had to be a local distillery.  I googled distilleries in Perthshire & up popped Tullibardine.

Tullibardine Distillery

Tullibardine is located in Blackford, a mere 23 miles away from us.  Situated just off the A9 - I had actually passed this distillery everyday for about 2 years on my way to & from work but I hadn't even noticed it.  How bad is that! :/

The distillery still operates in a traditional way so the tour gives a great insight to the distillation process.  The tours are lead by experienced guides.  Old men in jumpers - they definitely look like they know a lot about whisky!  It has 4.5 rating on Tripadviser.

The shop & bar is a lovely open space that showcases the bottles perfectly.  The bar has comfy chairs & a wide range of Tullibardine's finest to try.

Four tasters finished!

I booked Mr B on the Connoisseur Tour, something a bit more special as it was a christmas gift after all!

The tour included a visit to the bonded warehouse, nosing directly from the cask, tutored tasting of four Tullibardine Single Malts & a gift bag!

"Learn from your expert tour guide as they take you around the distillery giving you in-depth knowledge on the whole whisky making process.  This is followed by a tour bonded warehouse, which is not normally open to the public where you will be able to take in the aromas and see firsthand how the 'new make spirit' is magically transformed in to the water of life by our specially selected casks. Our guide will select a cask and pull a whisky (or two) straight from it for nosing. Afterwards, you will be taken to the tasting room for a tutored tasting of four of the whiskies from our range." From Tullibardine leaflet
He thoroughly enjoyed his tour & was particularly taken with the sherry cask so got a bottle for his collection.

I didn't take any photos of the distillery cos I was too busy rummaging around Baxters next door - read bout my day here.  Let's face it I was there to be the driver as Mr B enjoyed himself so much he had another sample of the sherry cask just to make sure that was the one to buy & oh the beer from a whisky cask, that had to be tried too!

Here is the glass & whisky from his gift bag.  It really was a good start to the challenge & now I know exactly what I am getting him for his birthday - another local tour!

I've decided I am going to the next one  - Famous Grouse.  Coming soon.

Do you try local foods/drinks?

Been to any distilleries you would recommend?
