CELEBRATION OF MEXICAN HERITAGE & PRIDE

We have never been to Mexico but it is definitely on my wanderlust!

What's great about #BEDM is the post prompts Elizabeth has put together to keep us all full of inspiration.  So as I flicked through the calendar I was intrigued by Cinco de Mayo.

Good old google hopefully, correctly, informs me that Cinco de Mayo is spanish for 5th May & the day was originally to commemorate the cause of freedom & democracy during the American Civil War.

The Food

No celebration would be complete without food & actually our favourite restaurant in Perth is The Mexican.

Aptly named it is simple, good home cooked mexican food.

No they are not mexican, however the family who own the business have been several times & fell in love with the place & the food.  Lucky for us they brought the food back with them!

The fajitas are just fab & served on a stand similar to afternoon tea.  It just works so well as it takes up less space on the table & looks a bit wow as they come out sizzling! Next time I need to get a picture to add here - what an excuse to go back soon!

But my go to favourite dish is Blackened Chicken.  A skillet fried spiced chicken breast served with chips, cajun sauce and salad.  I adore this dish, my mouth is watering as I type - gutted they are not open on a Monday :(

Anyhoo I am not one for salad with a warm dish, I hate how it heats up on the plate & it just feels weird for me - I like salads cold & crunchy!  So most places I will ask for salad separately or ask for a different vegetable.  The staff have come to know my quirkiness (honestly we are not there that often they are just great at their job, honest!) & as I order the Blackened chicken she says
"with no salad but a portion of coleslaw instead"
Don't you just love it when staff remember what you like!  It just adds to the nice feel of the place, that & the free taster frozen margaritas & nachos for the table! :)

Here is the dish in full glory
That cajun sauce has a kick to it & the coleslaw just cools my mouth back down lovely!

Mr B's favourite is a bit of everything!  They do a combo, perfect for someone who can't make up their mind - a chicken blanco chimichanga, shredded pork taco, beef steak quesadilla, rice & refried beans.

Sometimes he even asks for surprise plate & the chef mixes & matches sauces & dishes or gets him to try something new!  Again it goes back to fab service which just all adds to a great dining experience.

I would thoroughly recommend The Mexican to anyone in & around the Perth area, but you have got to book at the weekend to make sure you get a table!

We decided to cut down on the amount we are eating out & both came to the agreement that The Mexican would be our go to place when we were having a meal out.

We recently went with Mr B's parents when they were up visiting - they actually found the place when visiting Perth in the past & we are so glad they recommended we give it a shot.

We also went for Mr B's birthday dinner, well not on his birthday cos we were both ill but that was where he wanted to go for our special treat out.

So today #BEDM is brought to you by out little piece of Mexico in her in Scotland.

Ever been to Mexico?

What's your favourite food?

Do you have a local place that has great service?
