Gone to Lunch
I've had a few posts in drafts for ages & I am finally getting round to editing & pressing publish!
Although St Andrews is a small town on the Fife coast it is well known for tourists visiting the home of golf & students attending the famous university where Prince William & Kate met. It boasts plenty of nice eateries, bars & boutique shops. I picked the Vic because the outside was like an old fashioned cinema & the entrance looked very 'cool'. The menu then enticed us in with everything from teeny weeny burgers (love everything miniature), a fish finger sandwich & a fruity feta salad.
The Decor
When you go in, there is a cool chalkboard suggesting Gin is served in tea cups - shame I was driving! The stairs have a quirky bold white & black chequered flooring & posters covering every inch of the walls. There is so much going on your eyes are drawn all over the walls. Randomly at the top of the stairs is an ironing board with menus & visitors book
The place is has a high ceiling & a massive bar extends right up to the ceiling. It has industrial features with exposed brick & basic wire lighting. The walls are adorned with random stuff - like a surf board, a board game shelf & bit flat screen tvs.
We climbed up on to high stools at a long rustic looking table made of rough timber. All the booths & tables were round the walls & taken as it was quite busy. There was a free basket of fruit to help yourself, & napping & cutlery on the tables for a rustic feel.
We had a good look at the menu & all that was on offer.
THE FOOD
The wine list made me chuckle. For a non wine drinker I thought it was fab choose from Cheap, Decent & Good wines.Gourmet burgers seemed to be their main focus so we both ended up going for burgers. Mr B had the Goodfella & I went for the Mexican Bean burger - 5 bean burger, salsa, jalapeƱos, cheese, chipotle mayo but hold the guacamole for me, thanks!
The burgers are served on wooden boards with chips, Mr B swapped for curly fries. Mine was tasty, the burger was a bit mushy in texture but full of great flavours. And Mr B fair enjoyed his. There was plenty eating in the them.
We were in a bit of a rush cos of a parking meter but I managed to find the loo (all the walls looked the same, it was hard to even know where the door was - bet that makes life interesting for drunken students at night when it becomes a club!) & I even braved a toilet mirror selfie!
On the way out I noticed the massive chandelier above the stairs which was made from miniature vodka bottles, some empty some with stuff in! What a cool feature - I want one - DIY project? lol Maybe I could persuade Mr B to agree if he had to drink a loud of whisky miniatures for me to make it?
All in all it was a great wee lunch venue, if you like young, quirky trendy places. That was the overall impression.
Do you like quirky venues?
How about gourmet burgers or a fish finger sandwich?
