What's on the box?

Each week I link up with The Bloggers Collaboration for Co-lab Thursday.  Everyone post on a topic - one word interpreted however you choose!  Check out last week's word SPRING, one of my faves a post on LOVE.

Having a topic each week makes me think outside the box & post on something I may have never considered before.  But today we are going back in the box - the TV.

I am a big TV fan!  Until recently if you had asked me what my hobby was it would have been TV watching (I know, it's not a real hobby but it was my only interest outside work!).  I can now proudly say I do have some hobbies under my belt but I have never lost my love of the TV.

This weeks TV Listings

In case you missed it the word this week is TV.  I thought it would be a great idea to run through what I like to watch.

Monday

  • Eastenders - I just love the Walford gang.  It's a proper soap opera - just drama, drama, drama.  Always a storyline that keeps me hooked awaiting the next episode after the doff, dooof, dooof, ddddooofffff. Insert Eastenders theme tune! A British institution set in good old East London, E20 - polished sets & famous actors, every one has seen & heard of Eastenders, right?
  • One Born Every Minute - Love, love, love it - addicted to the gore, the screaming & the cute little babies.  My hubby on the other hand hates it!  He hears the screams in the opening titles & makes a sharp exit!
Tuesday

Now Tuesday is what I like to call - Soap Night.
  • Eastenders - Another instalment of the London soap to ease me into a night of tv bliss
  • River City - a scottish soap - so it is only aired in Scotland on BBC 1 after Eastenders.  This is the complete opposite to Eastenders - yes it may have serious story lines but some how hearing scottish accents & some of the comedy one liners this soap just lifts my heart!  I am such a big fan, a few years ago I visited the set!  I dragged my hubby along, who at that point had never seen it so I have loads of photos of me dotted round parts of the set looking in aww of the Glasgow film studio!  If you can by any chance catch an episode on iPlayer  - you should!
It is pure dead brilliant (another famous scottish phrase!) Go on click on the link - you know you want to!
Me posing badly at the River City set - I was in the Tall Ship, the Oyster Cafe & the Salon!!
  • Shetland - Another Scottish drama but it finished this week & I haven't seen the ending so no spoilers please!! It is set on the island of Shetland, a sleepy wee island but the police are kept pretty busy in this series! If for nothing more than the scenery shots - I have really enjoyed this addition to my Tuesday.  Prior to that is was Silent Witness & I watched that too so seems like it doesn't matter what BBC 1 shove on at 9pm on a tuesday I'm hooked!
Wednesday
At mo Wed is not a TV night for me.  There just isn't anything that draws me in.  Yes we may have it on in the background but not really watching anything.  I tend to catch up on blog reading or write this post!  Doesn't do me any harm to step away from the TV but if you do have any suggestions I'll be sure to take a look.

Thursday
  • It's back to good old Easties for the next episode - usually starting the big build for the weekend.
  • How I Met Your Mother - I'm on the last series, from what I can gather we are behind the US because I stupidly clicked an article about the ending on twitter.  No!  I got sucked into this from endless re runs on E4, this guy has been telling a story about how he met the kids' mother for years!! But it is coming to an end so I have been griped into keeping up to date with this series.
  • Nashville - oh yes I love my American TV fix.  Country music, scandal, a bit of sexiness & lots of hot men (in my opinion anyway!) & Hayden Panettiere (one of my girl crushes!) Yes I do like to get my Nashville fix for the week.  We are on the second series & I have loved every episode! I have a few songs of the 1st series sound track the voices are amazing!  Again this is one show I would urge you to check out if you like music & american TV.
Friday
Am I boring you yet?
  • Eastenders -AGAIN! Ok I don't always watch this one on the Friday night, occasionally we do have a social life away from the TV (you would never of guessed from this post!)
  • Usually I flick if we are home & I have been known to catch a few episodes of Googlebox - a weird programme where you watch people watching the tv.  Strange but some how compelling.
Saturday

I am a sucker for the latest reality, talent search, singing/dancing show i.e The Voice, The X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, & even a bit of Britain's Got Talent - at a push!

Sunday

I tend to catch up on anything I've missed during the week.  I am also known to get stuck watching re runs of How I Met Your Mother & the Big Bang Theory on E4.  In fact E4 can provide ours of shows - Mindy Project, Gilmore Girls, Ugly Betty made in USA - i'll watch it!

Other shows I love

So I have babbled about all the shows I currently watch but this post on TV just wouldn't be complete without a few mentions of shows that I LOVE but are not on at the mo.

Grey's Anatomy
I made my hubby go all the way to Seattle for my love of this show!  I heard the bridge scenes were filmed in the airport & wanted to take the ferry McDreamy took from Bainbridge Island so we went - &  I would go back in a heart beat! I loved Seattle it was just like the cut away shots in Grey's.  If you are a fan I would recommend it.

I have some box sets & some sets on iTunes so I'm as up to date as I can be in the UK without Sky but I am badly due a Grey's marathon soon! All your emotions in one episode mixed with crazy medical cases which I love to guess diagnosis.  Hurry up & catch up iTunes or Amazon!

Glee
Another US music show.  I love a good show tune & mashups & it's just great! Bring it back to Freeview UK I'm soo behind on seasons it isn't funny!  When we went to L.A & visited Paramount they were actually filming while we were there but I didn't catch even a glimpse of any cast members :(

CSI Las Vegas
I love CSI.  I do like the others with Mac in NY & Haratio in Miami but my fave is Grissom in Las Vegas.  Again there is a theme here - I dragged my hubby to the CSI experience in Las Vegas.  He was bit more keen on this visit, in fact he whizzed round getting his rookie diploma in record time!  Yes, you heard right, if you complete the tasks such as crime scene reporting, trace analysis & finger print recognition & file all your findings you get a certificate! You are a rookie CSI - we even got to wear CSI vests as we went round! They even have a complete replica of Grissom's office, with bugs & stuff I soo wanted my picture taken in there but Mr Scrooge McScottish bahumbug wouldn't let me pay $30 for a picture :(

New Girl
Who's that girl? It's Jess! Great show - so light hearted, bit crazy, bit whacky just a good all round fun show.  Did I mention I totally adore Jess? I love her geeky, clumsy, naive style.
I brake for birds.  I rock a lot of polka dots.  I have touched glitter in the last 24 hours.  I spend my entire day talking to children.   And I find it fundamentally strange that you're not a dessert person.  It freaks me out.  I'm sorry that I don't talk like Murphy Brown. And I hate your pants suit.  I wish it had ribbons on it or something just to make it slightly cuter but that doesn't mean I'm not smart and tough and strong.
She is well known for a good rant - what a great quote.

I am sure there are so many other shows I love - like Sherlock, Spooks, Junior Doctors, Call the Midwife, oh the more I type the more I think of shows I've loved but I will stop now.

In summary - i'm not that into TV - haha who am I kidding I'm an addict.  I am definitely in firm control of the remote & recording schedule in our house.

So do you watch any of these?  Any I've missed that you think should def be in my TV listings?
