bursting with scottish pride

(warning this post is bit pic heavy - I got a snap happy with my iPhone)

A wee taster tray of Tullibardine Whisky
My hubby is a big fan of the 'water of life', Whisky.  For christmas I got him a map of all the distilleries in Scotland, some stickers to mark the ones he's been to & a tour of the local distillery to get him started on his Whisky adventure - To visit every distillery in Scotland!

He needed a lift to this tour because he got to taste 4 drams after the tour (he also squeezed in another 1 & a whisky beer!)  So as he went off to learn more about Tullibardine Distillery I headed over to Baxters kitchen & shop.

foodie heaven

White Chocolate & Raspberry Muffin
Baxters is a famous Scottish brand with a strong focus on family recipes & traditional Scottish produce, they are well known for their jam, soup & condiments.  In 1868 George Baxter opened his first shop in the village of Fochabers with his wife making jam & jellies in the back shop!  I had a wee sweet treat in the kitchen before wandering round all the jars, tins & boxes of scottish goodies on offer.

local scottish goods

I'm having a tea party for my girlfriends in March (part of Be More Social goal this year) so was drawn to the collection of teas.  The shelves were stocked with Scottish companies many of which I had never come across.  It was lovely to see loads of products all from my area, bonnie Scotland!

First off, The Wee Tea Company had some sweet smelling teas - Rooibus & Vanilla, Darjeeling & Rose & Earl Grey & Blue flower to name a few.  They have their own tea plantation, right here in Scotland.  The packaging was striking & contemporary & I will definitely look to try these in the future.  ( I need tea brewer for loose tea - on their website they have lovely wee gift sets, which I have promptly added to my wish list!)

Round the corner on this tea stand was the Edinburgh Tea & Coffee Company which came in cute tins with stunning shots of scottish scenery.  They too had a variety of teas with a scottish twist such as heather tea or whisky flavour.  Since the day was about whisky tasting I treated myself to a box of whisky tea & will report back later on how it the girls found it on tea party day.

More tea! (we do like a good cuppa in Scotland) & a glasgow based company Brewhaha with funky bright retro packaging & a great slogan "Brew's the Daddy!" Loving the vintage feel I had to get one of these to try so pretty in pink I went with the Rose Tea.  I've hopped online & they have a great range, including a Happiness Tea & will be launching a Scottish blend this year so I will be following Bunty's blog for more on that!

To keep with the tea theme I found teapots, gorgeous dotty sets, cute mugs & cake stands.

For those who love a biscuit with their tea, there was plenty to choose from.  Dean's apple crumble or raspberry & oatmeal shortbread, Cairnsmhor's Banoffee Crumble (banoffee is my fav flavour, along with white choc & raspberry) & Mary Steele's the Exquiste Biscuit selection for something a little indulgent!  The sleek tall box with bright colours & strong flavours would make these a lovely gift.

Continuing the scottish produce was a firm favourite oatcakes, Perthshire oatcakes, had a great selection with 100% scottish oats.  Cairnsmhor had intriguing flavours such as Haggis, Garlic & coriander & Parmesan & pepper sounded delicious.  All these brands are rather local Your Piece Baking Company had lovely tubes of oatcakes I love they have a campaign against machine oatcakes!  The Kindness Bakery just sounded lovely, I had visions of women baking with smiles on their faces & love going straight into their treats.  I will def be taking a look at their range!

But for my tea party & my love of miniature I went with MacLean's oatcake canapĂ© shells.  These will work great with some cheese & pickle or I may even make homemade pate!

The dietitian in me was drawn to the Free From range which also had a scottish company Lazy Day Foods who had a good variety of wheat free, gluten free, dairy free & vegan products - def ones to look up if you fancy something bit tasty on a special diet.

So I all in all I had a grand all time waiting for my hubby! It was a great wee saturday out, lots of new companies to try, a real scottish affair!

Do you buy local?

Have you heard of these Scottish companies?

Any companies/products you would recommend?
