start spreading the news
In new york, concrete jungle where dreams are made, ohSo many lyrics - I will stop now, I promise.
I am a massive fan of all things USA. For our honeymoon my hubby asked where in the world do I want to go, & in heartbeat I knew that place was America. We had a trip of a lifetime, starting in Seattle (Big Grey's Anatomy fan!) then San Fransisco to collect the car & drive on down the coast to Monterary Bay, Pismo Beach, Malibu & Los Angeles for a few days in Hollywood before driving off into the sunset to Las Vegas for my birthday!
I know, I am a very lucky wife!
The next USA trip I had in my sights was also a biggy - New York. We did think about going for my 30th but with the house move & plans for decking in the garden we wouldn't have the money to make the trip everything we wanted, city breaks are so expensive! So my 30th came & went with a wonderful trip to Italy but New York was still on the cards.
Hogmany - the party of the year
Being Scottish I love Hogmany, all the newness & excitement & where else has massive new years celebrations, besides Edinburgh of course, but the city of my desires New York! We watched flights on sale for Christmas shopping in NYC but I was now convinced I wanted to go at new years to see the ball drop on Times Square. (I sound very demanding & hard to please but my hubby & I are all about making memories, saving hard & doing hols all out!)
As we watched flights & availability come & go i started to lose hope that this trip was too expensive & not gonna happen. However a perk of having a hubby who is away on business all the time is he is a BA card holder. (I knew there must be some perks to him being so busy all the time).
There it was - flights to New York before new year but we couldn't get the flights we wanted back - so what does my super duper hubby suggest ? We go to Washington DC for a few days & fly home from there!! Amazing!
So we are now all booked up! We go business class, yes you read that right, little old me in business class long haul! We are staying on Times Square & bringing in New Year 2015 in New York then heading to Washington DC to explore the Lincoln Memorial, the Supreme Court & the White House.
I can not wait. This is obviously our holiday for the year so the planning & saving begins!
I will be planning our time in NYC to make sure we see & do everything the city has to offer so any hints, tips, recommendations please get in touch!
I have a countdown on my phone - not that I'm excited or anything ;-)

But I also want to keep the excitement going through out the year so any film recommendations wither set in or heavily feature NYC or Washington DC let me know, as I plan to log them up & watch them throughout the year & point & scream at the telly "We are going there!"
I've already got some on my list but please help me add to it
- White House Down - seen recently
- Home Alone 2 Lost in New York
- Fame
- Ghostbusters
- Forrest Gump - mainly the anti war rally at the National Mall
- Sex in the City
- Gossip Girl (never seen any but sure it's NYC based)
It's so nice to be looking forward, I spent a long time looking back. It's lovely having something so big & special to look forward to again like the wedding & honeymoon.
I read something recently that said for self care you should always be able to answer 2 questions
1. When is your next massage?
2. When is your next holiday?
This week I book myself a massage & look forward to my holiday!
When & where are you going on holiday this year?
Do you enjoy the planning for a big holiday?
Ever been to NYC or Washington DC?
What an exciting trip - two of my most favorite places! I went to law school in DC, I can't believe it's been 10 years since I lived there. I loved it!
ReplyDeleteSome movies you might like are Dave (DC) and Coming to America (Queens, and my favorite movie ever)
Thanks, yeah I'm so excited! & to movies I've never heard of so will def try get these to watch!
DeleteThat is SO exciting that you're coming for a visit to NYC!! I live 20 min from there, so if you have any questions please feel free to email me :) My best suggestion for tourists and locals alike is to visit High Line Park. It's an old set of train tracks that used to run above ground, and has since been transformed into a really cool, modern park. In my opinion, it's one of the best, most beautiful, and most unique things Manhattan has to offer. In fact, one of my very first posts on my blog features the High Line.
ReplyDeleteAs for movie suggestions, I really like 200 Cigarettes. Takes place in NYC in the '80s :) I also agree with Blush & Barbells - Coming to America is pretty freaking awesome!
Some others worth mentioning: Kids, Taxi Driver, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Muppets Take Manhattan, When Harry Met Sally, Tootsie, & Big
